Plex Advanced Remote v3 by Br0sk
I am trying to get Plex Advanced Remote v3 by Br0sk working in my Unified Remote 188.8.131.529 (Windows).
The remote I am speaking about is at: https://github.com/br0sk/unifiedremote-v3-plex-advanced and the specific file I downloaded is at: https://github.com/br0sk/unifiedremote-v3-plex-advanced/archive/master.zip
I've downloaded the file but do not know what to do to make Unified Remote recognize it for use. I've tried dragging-and-dropping and that didn't work. I compare the file format of the ZIP to another remote (Irfan View), made a modified ZIP and tried dragging-and-dropping that, but it didn't work. I've tried copying the files to C:\ProgramData\Unified Remote\Remotes\Custom, but that didn't work...
I feel like I am close and missing something obvious. I would appreciate any assistance in getting this to work. Thanks!
Can anyone offer any guidance, please?
If you put it in remotes/main then it should work (I think) ...... if you put it in custom then you will need to tell the server to load it......
Look in the server... settings/remotes to see which folders are being loaded and add the one you want.......
Look in the server... remotes to see which ones are available and / or loaded.....
Look in the server... log to see clues as to why your remote has not been loaded....
......(a remote will probably not load if it cannot talk to the correct hardware)...
Thank you for your reply...
Just to clarify... Do you mean that the file should be in the following location?
C:\Program Files (x86)\Unified Remote 3\Remotes\Main\Plex Advanced\PlexAdvanced.remote
@vogelap Hello again.......
I have just downloaded the file that you downloaded, and looked inside...... I am sorry I did not do that before.
It (the remote) was built a few years ago for the developer preview of what is now the current version (3) of Unified Remote...... but unfortunately they changed the file name formats before they released version 3 to the public.
It might be (I hope) that you can make it work by changing the names of the files to the current UR format (very annoyingly simple if it works)....... I have done that for you here......
I don't have plex.
Try un-zipping the folder that I have posted and moving it to the "Main" or "Custom" folder as previously discussed.
It might then load........ but not work....... it might be necessary to move the code that is in the "meta.prop" file into the "remote.lua" file......... but that will take some hours of research......
Please let me know how you get on.......
David... Thanks VERY much indeed! I installed the file you provided and got an error in the log that led me to the meta.prop file. I needed to add the "meta.*" lines at the top of the file (which is below). Not sure if I needed to keep the lines below that, so I did.
Restarted UR and it seems to be working -- well, at least the Remote is recognized and displaying on my Android device! Keypresses don't seem to be sending, but that'll be the next project...
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
meta.name: Plex Advanced
meta.description: Plex Advanced remote.
-- The path to the Plex executable. Notice the double backslashes, backslash needs to be exscaped like that to work
appPath: C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Center\Plex.exe
-- This is the base url of your Plex server, it is needed to get the library refrfesh button to work
-- To find the sections load this url in a browser http://192.168.10.2:32400/library/sections.
-- Pick out the sections you want to be refreshed on click and create a comma separated string like e.g. like 1,4,5
-- Decide if the screen switching will be part of the remote
My first (and only thought so far) is that you will need to set the actual (for your computer) path to Plex.exe.
In your last post you will see a variable "appPath" which tells the remote where to find the plex executable........"appPath: C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Center\Plex.exe" (with the double-slashes).........
..........and you most likely need to change that........
But maybe you need to copy that line to the top of the "remote.lua" file (insert it at about line 14).... but try leaving it where it is at first.......it might work like that and will be easier to find and change for another computer..... which is probably why it is in the meta.prop file in the first place......
The same goes for defining the variables "plexBaseUrl" and whether you need to move that and "screenSwitchActive".......(to lines 15 and 16?)...........
The "sections" bit ? I don't know straight off what it might mean...........
