    All,

    I am using Windows Media Center on windows 7. I also use a cablecard tuner with live TV. I was wondering if it's possible to make a remote with buttons that tune to a particular TV channel automatically. Would something like that be possible? Also, assuming that is possible, can I assign a TV channel logo to the button?

    I'm thinking of something like this:

    Just to close out this thread, I made three changes that seemed to fix the problems

    1. I am now running the unified remote server app at the "realtime" priority level. Responsiveness is much improved.

    2. My tablet was shutting off the wifi connection when it went into low power mode, thus creating a situation where people were resuming from sleep and furiously pressing buttons before the wifi had a chance to re-initialize. I keep wifi on all the time now to prevent this.

    3. I have emphasized the importance of patience. :-)

    Thanks for the help, guys.

    I haven't had a chance to perform the ping test yet. I'll do it either today or over the weekend.

    One thing I did was I am starting the server application at the "real time" priority level in windows. I do this for my SoundGraph iMon IR receiver and it seems to help. Doing that with the unified remote server app has produced a noticeable improvement in response time. I noticed that there is still a slight lag whenever I send commands during a time when my HTPC is doing something over the network (recording a TV show or guide update, etc..). Is it possible to prioritize unified remote's communication over other network activities?

    Also, I've noticed that the remote becomes unresponsive when my HTPC comes out of S3 sleep. The server app is running, but the remote has to be re-selected and the list of remotes refreshed before it can be used again. Can the server app refresh the connection automatically?

    This worked. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I connect over wifi (except the IR buttons)

    That's what I figured I'd have to do.

    Another question: Is it possible to increase the font size of the text on the buttons that I use text labels on? My custom remote will be occasionally used by an elderly person, and the very small default font size is all but impossible for them to see. Can the icon sizes be increased as well?

    The only remote I use now is the custom one that I made, and it uses a combination of windows shortcut keys, windows media center commands and a few IR commands to handle power toggle for my devices. The IR buttons work because I have the code built in to the .XML file so I can toggle power without the server being on, but the other buttons show the delay.

    I also notice that sometimes the server app doesn't come back when my HTPC wakes from S3 sleep. I can sometimes get it to come back if, on my tablet, I re-select the server IP address and refresh the list of remotes. Other times, I have to hard-reset the server. Is there a way of making sure that the server app comes back (as quickly as possible, ideally) after resume from sleep?

    My intent is to use this custom remote as a replacement for all the other remotes that I have, so I need this to be at least as responsive and reliable as the Logitech harmony 620 (among others) that it replaces.

    All,

    I have noticed that there is a brief delay between the press of a button (maybe 1-2 seconds) and the corresponding action on screen using the windows media center commands (on windows 7). The delay is long enough that the other (less patient) of my family members are sometimes prompted to re-press the button many times in order to achieve the desired action on screen.

    Other than encourage my family members to be more patient, is there anything I can do to reduce this apparent lag between the press of a button and the action on screen? Should I try to run the server app at a higher priority?

    Thanks.

    Ok, well here's what I'm trying to do:

    I'm trying to use this background image:

    background.png

    with the standard icons superimposed over the top of it for each of my buttons on my customized remote. Can I do this? Where can I find the default icons that are used in unified remote (power, up, down, left right, volume, etc..)?

    Hello,

    I am trying to create a custom remote with two buttons that zoom in (ctrl +) and zoom out (ctrl -) when I'm viewing a webpage on my HTPC. The code I'm using is based on examples in the "windows" remote:

    actions.zoomin = function ()
    keyboard.stroke("ctrl", "+");
    end

    and

    actions.zoomout = function ()
    keyboard.stroke("ctrl", "-");
    end

    Neither seem to work. Is there something I'm missing?
