Currently, the controller elements are always padded with a constant border width between them (through which the white or black background is visible) but many times I'd like my buttons to touch each other and not be separated at all:

One feature I will definitely use is to be able to set a background image for the entire remote , instead of just having a solid black or white (depending on the theme chosen) background. something like:
<layout orientation="portrait" image = "background_img.png" > </layout>
This feature will be very helpful for remoteers that mainly use transparent buttons, with custom graphics, that show a lot of the background.
An even cooler feature would be to be able to supply two images with different resolutions for different devices:
<layout phone_image = "background_480x320_img.png" tablet_image = "background_1024x768_img.png"> </layout>
